How realistic is it to sub a PSA10? (80s / 90s timeframe)

Assuming that the card obviously looks good to your eye (centering is flush, edges / corners are sharp, etc.), what's the odds of getting a 10? I know this is kind of a subjective question but I'm looking for any expert opinion.

For example, what if you bought a lot of Mint cards on eBay. Outside shot of maybe 1 qualifying? Or if you bought out a collector who took extreme care of their cards... mostly would be PSA 8/9s with maybe a 10 or two mixed in if lucky?

Seems to be more fun in trying to get a 10 the hard way, but if it's virtually impossible then maybe they should just be bought outright. Or try your luck at buying 9s and resubbing as 10s perhaps?

Any comments appreciated, thanks in advance.

it will be cheaper to buy a PSA 10 then submit one yourself.

But as you mentioned, its not nearly as much fun.

if youve never submitted before, be prepared to be a bit heartbroken until you learn the ways of self submission. Giving you a "percentage" is impossible to do.
