Lowe was one of the rare pitchers who went from being an excellent reliever to an excellent starter.
He saved 42 games for the Red Sox in 2000, then 24 games in 2001.
The next season, he started and went 21-8 with a 2.50 era and came in third in the Cy Young voting.
