Reading a 1997 beckett and came across an interesting promotion which, if ever repeated, will be mega interesting!

Back then, pinnacle had a promotion in which if a collector assembled all four print plates of a player in a certain time, pinnacle will pay them $35k.

I don't know if they ever had to pay up but imagine if a company did it now.

And below is a pic I promised for the rusty Greer fan. Initial price tag was $1200

Wow! Would be an interesting Promo for a card manufacturer to run today. Obviously easier to complete today vs 1997with ebay, trading card forums like this and the overall internet effect but would still be tough. I imagine it would spark interest in said product if there were a tiered contest (ie first to collect all 4 plates gets 10k, next 5k , etc) and would have a nice side effect on secondary prices.

Would love to see topps offer prizes for certain collecting targets such as full rainbows...

You know if a company did it today, the first plates listed and regardless of player, would be $9,000 bin/bo

And as soon as it became more expensive to complete than the reward that came for completion or someone else obtained one of the plates from a run another "collector" was trying for, "item not as described" claims would enter an all-time high and a lot of refunds would have to be issued.

It would be smarter for those who pull plates to advertise and get together to submit their respective plates as a set, then split the funds.
