Gardner is 30 and has 1 year remaining, Jackson will be 27 and has 2 years remaining. Tigers want a left handed bat, and the Yankees could always use a right handed bat.

They had very similar seasons in 2013.

Gardner:

609 PA, 147 Hits, 33 doubles, 10 triples, 8 home runs, 52 RBI, 24 SB, 8 CS, 52 BB, 127 K | .273/.344/.759

Jackson:

614 PA, 150 Hits, 30 doubles, 7 triples, 12 home runs, 49 RBI, 8 SB, 4 CS, 52 BB, 127 K | .272/.337/.754

Would you make the trade if you were the Tigers? The Yankees?

The way I see it, Jackson has higher upside with the bat, but Gardner offers maybe a little more speed and will steal more bases. They're such comparable players that I'm not sure either side would really gain ground. Seems like a complete wash.

Exactly. They aren't going to make this trade. It was discussed minimally. It makes very little sense to either side. I think the Yankees would be winning in the trade but not really by much and its not worth it to do it for both teams.

If I were the Yankees, I'd make the deal. Why would the Tigers want Gardner when they have the 2 headed beast of Davis / Dirks?
