With Pedro being up for HOF next year, it got me to thinking about the '94 Expos team that got denied a chance at History by the strike...

What's the best team you saw that DID NOT win that season's World Series?

3 of my Favorites at the time all lost in the Playoffs despite being GREAT teams:

The '88 Mets who lost to Orel and the Dodgers. The '90 Oakland A's, who lost to Billy Hatcher and the Reds.

And the '09 or '10 Phils, who both were better than the '08 Champs IMO...

this and a lot of 90s indians

Yeah, I thought about them too. But I didn't see 'em that much, did their pitching besides Nagy hold up?

And the early to mid 80s Astros were real good. They played some epic LCSs in '80 and '86 before losing...

Not sure on the pitching but they should have had enough offense with Belle, Baerga, Lofton, Thome, Ramirez, Murray, etc. IIRC they had Hershiser pitch a couple good seasons for them, and maybe Denny Martinez?

2001 Seattle Mariners dominated the league that year.. 116 wins and one of the main reasons Lou Pinella left..

He asked the front office to get David Justice and they said no.. Then Justice had the knockout blow that let NY advance to the World Series..

They just could not lose that year and won the first two games of the playoffs (only one round of playoffs then) and were one win away from the World Series but the dang Padres and Steve Garvey somehow found their groove and kicked their tails. This one still hurts because as a member of the front office that year I would have had a World Series ring if they won.
