Ray Caldwell pitched a no-hitter in 1919 and won twenty games for Cleveland the next season. He was also one of the few players allowed to continue throwing the spitball after it was banned in 1920. But, back in 1919 he was pitching a game in Philadelphia when an electrical storm blew in. Since there were two out in the ninth inning, umpires let play continue. A bolt of lightning struck Caldwell on the mound knocking him out cold. When Caldwell was revived, he insisted on finishing the game. He did so with a flourish, striking out the final batter for the complete game win.
Of course, there was also Red Murray, who, five years earlier, on July 17, 1914, was knocked unconscious by a bolt of lightning after catching a fly ball for the final out in a 21 inning contest.
