Sometimes it's not the opposition that you have to watch out for...
Oliver "Ghost" Marcelle, the great ***** League third baseman, was playing winter ball in Cuba in 1928. Possibly because of a dice game, he got into a fight with teammate Frank Warfield. During the struggle Warfield bit off part of Marcelle's nose. Marcelle wore a patch over his nose, but was so ashamed of it, he retired rather than show his face.
