My question is simple.

Do you put in your max bid for an item when you initially bid?

Or do you incrementally bid on an item until you hit your max price?

I know that in the end it doesn't really matter, but I do not understand the guys in the second camp. I mean come on, just put in a bid of what you are willing to pay and be done with it. Why would anyone do that?

Here is my latest example...

I mean seriously, if you are willing to pay $100, then just bid $100 from the outset. The guy put 54 bids on this item!! Just seems silly to me. If the card is goes cheaper you don't pay $100.

Let me hear how and why you bid. Thanks.

for strategic reasons, I use snipe bidding and my snipe bid is set at my maximum desired price.

I bid in the last few seconds. People bidding all through the auction, typically end up raising the final price.

I'm an add to my cart but never check out bidder, apparently.

I used to be a throw down all my money instantly bidder.. That didn't work out so well for my wallet.
I manual snipe somewhere in the last 5 seconds now. This has dramatically decreased the price I pay on most things. Never feel guilty now after winning an auction or wondering if I paid to much

I'm a sniper, but that doesn't mean I won't throw out a few random bids. Namely if I want to view the number of people watching the listing, or I want the seller to know that he has a serious bidder, other than the guy trying to get him to end the listing early.

I learned early on that it is silly to put your max bid in first.

Best strategy I've found is to put around 20% of your max bid in when you see it. This keeps the seller from ending early, the flippers from bidding, and the people that bid $1 at a time 46 times from driving up the price. Then snipe with your best price.

I am a no nonsense bidder. If I see a BIN/BO I like I will either hit the BIN is it is priced reasonably, or I will submit my top price to take or leave (no negotiations). If it's a real auction, I will place a bid for my highest price I am willing to pay, if it holds, great! If not, so long... I just do not have the time or patience for anything else but to bid/offer what I am willing to pay.

This is what I do most of the time if I initially put a bid down at all. Usually I wait until the last minute.

What I really don't understand are the small incremental bids. This just seems like a stupid wasteful bidding strategy.

Please help me understand any logic to this.

This is my strategy as well.

My bidding is all over the place though I will not bid 50+ little increments and I am a manual sniper. Using a snipe to me seems like a unfair tactic and I refuse to do it even though I am always sniped by a fellow Rickey collector.
