By Jeff Todd [January 29, 2014 at 4:04pm CST]
Lance Berkman has confirmed that his playing career is over and that he will retire, reports MLB.com's Richard Justice (Twitter links). The 37-year-old has seen action in fifteen MLB seasons, posting an outstanding .943 OPS over his 7,814 big league plate appearances.

Sad to see the last of the Killer Bs retire. It was definitely a great career! He is in my opinion the best switch hitter of all time. I wish the best to him in all his future encounters.

I'm glad he got his WS ring before he retired.

I'd probably rank Chipper Jones and Mickey Mantle ahead of him, but can't argue with top 3. Great career and best of luck to him in the future.

I genuinely believe he should be in the HOF. Take a look at his stats. A 144 OPS+ for his career.
I know he won't, and someone like Edgar Martinez should be in before him.

I also think he should be in the HOF, but I don't care enough to debate it. After the crap he said when he left the Astros, I'll just chuckle at his misfortune if he doesn't get in.

I saw the news across the Bleacher report wire. Good for him.

I'm still looking to move my Berkman collection. Havent found a buyer, let alone a collector of his.

Eddie Murray may argue that...

And no, not a HOF player at all. Very good, absolutely! Sad to see him go...

Not much to argue, I'll take Big Puma. He probably won't ever make the HOF, but the numbers are there. He just didn't have any 'sexy' milestone numbers.

I'll say it before anybody asks, he won't make the HOF.

Hahaha! Before I opened the thread I said "How many posts before HOF or Hall of Fame is in a post"

About what I thought.

Also, he won't sniff the front porch of the HOF.

I agree that there is not much to argue, I'd take Murrays 20+ year career with over 3200 hits and 500+ HR's (including 1600+ Runs, almost 5400 total bases, multiple GG's, SS's, AS's, and a 6 time top 5 MVP vote getter), and a HOF induction.

So if the game is on the line, two outs, bases loaded...you'd take Murray over Berkman? Statistically, that is a bad decision.
