...for Mickey Mantle
1951 Bowman or 1952 Topps?

We know that value is weighted to the '52, but if prices were the same and you could own only one which would it be? dano7?

1951 Bowman. True RC, and I think the '52 is overrated. Then again, I prefer action shots to posed headshots

I'd give the 52 a slight edge, just because so many were destroyed by Topps. But I really love my 1951 Bowman, because it is technically Mantle's rookie card (even though NOT chrome!). Plus, 51 is my birth year.

I've read that there are many more 1952 Topps Mantles than '51 Bowmans, even though the '52s are rare high numbers and Topps dumped cases in the bay.
The '51 Bowmans didn't sell well compared to Topps, and the 52 is also a double print.
Al Rosen, who has bought and sold thousands of these cards, confirms the '51 Bowman Mantle is more rare, and the price difference is ridiculous.

I'd still rather have the '52 Topps because it's so iconic and I love how it looks. Being a Yankees fan and my dad collecting in the '50s, it's my ultimate dream card.

Tough call. Part of me says the '51 because of the true RC status. However, I think I would go with the '52. When I started collecting as a kid in the 80's, the '52 Mantle was THE card to own.

'51 and it's not even close for me.

They're like works of art. The Mantle pose and the green canvas flapping in the Mays background are so underrated.

I've always thought The Mick looked a little like Sloth from The Goonies on the '52T.

It would be tough, 51 is his RC however, it is a horizontal card and i just dont care for horizontal cards in slabs. petty i know so for that reason i would go with the 52 Topps
