If there were only 5 Topps products...

Kind of thought about this with the other thread about things you wish you could change about the hobby.

A fairly common complaint seems to be an excessive amount of product released by Topps. Too many vintage themed, prospect and high end sets appear to turn people off. So if you had the power to cut Topps production down to 5 sets, what would you keep? Have to pick current products and can't make any changes to them.

Mine would be:
1. Topps flagship (has to be kept, goes without saying)

2. Bowman (needs to be some sort of prospect product, it's not going away)

3. Museum Collection (IMO the most attractive high end cards on the market)

4. Heritage (I don't collect it but it's the most popular vintage themed set out there)

5. Bowman Chrome (needs to be some chrome out there)

I'd include A&G, but how many times can you still keep reinventing the wheel? The first time around it was an exact reproduction, but since then it's one reimagining after another. Take what's great about the set (interesting autographs) and roll them into Heritage. If you're going to put autos in Heritage that have nothing to do with that year's theme (ie Eric Davis and Davey Lopes in this year's set) then go whole hog and put in other random but more more interesting subjects.

Topps+Chrome - 8 base Topps + 2 Chrome in each pack, in 6 series releasing every 8 weeks. Bowman-style RCs would appear here
Heritage, plus year-end update
Five Star or Tier One, they are indistinguishable to me, but throw in the Museum Collection autos
Non-base-Topps Heritage where they replicate a different set each year, maybe from another company 1993 SP one year, 2008 Masterpieces another, 1991 Fleer one year, 1998 Topps Tek another
SSS (Special Smapdi Set, which I'd personally design each year)

It would still be 3 or 4 too many. Okay, two too many: Topps, Bowman Chrome, and ONE high end product.

ld allow 52 products a year from 5 different manufacturers....
Not necessarily even amount for each...

We need choices...You have the choice to then pick the 5 products you like and not buy any other..
and no need to pre-order months in advance, all they do is make 1000 cases of each and everything will be limited...
