Anyone remember the hoopla this card caused?

All because of that little red line on his arm.

From what I remember, once he got hot, Beckett listed this as a variation for like $15 which was a lot for a brand new card back then.

I also remember that as fast as it was listed, it was gone shortly after.

Kind of like Beckett "created" a value for a card which in reality, has a defect.

Wasn't collecting then, but doesn't surprise me. Back when we only had 3 sets to collect, every little thing was something to chase.

Had no idea, although 87 was right before i took a break and Donruss cards were still the hardest of the three to find in my area (not as bad as 84-86, but still tougher).

The Frank Thomas NNOF is also a print defect as is the 1961 Topps Ron Fairly bottom of baseball is green. Both of those are actively collected as are many others.
