Back then I got this card from a pack.

Flipped it over and saw someone at topps (or printers) wrote "21" on the back.

The marker is on the surface, not under.

Anyone find other "no logical explanation" things on cards?

Unfortunately anyone outside this board won't believe your pack pulled statement
Quite interesting though

I think the Topps employee was a Maddux/Cubs/Braves hater and that the inscription actually reads, "2L," or "tool."

In all seriousness, it was probably written on the top sheet of a stack of uncut cards as some form of label for the pallet of sheets...I'm sure it had some meaning on the production floor.

What's really weird, is Maddux's autograph when rushed looks like "L2" which is backwards of your 21 which looks like 2L.
The G looks like an L and the M looks like a 2.

Probably some ones crewing with you: "No one will ever believe this was pack pulled!"

That or something about redemptions. I can't come up with a good enough joke.
