I have nothing to add to this thread... Other than I think I pee'd a little and the realization unless I become a millionaire, my collection will never compare to the first two posts.... Amazing

The beauty of a picture set is it costs nothing lol.

Austin - there's some huge ones there.
Any reason the Gehrig and Ruth don't have a number? And that Anson is insane!

Oh, those aren't my cards. That's why the images are different sizes.
I pulled pics from a Google Image search. I was just helping out Topnotchsy build a complete database of all the cards in the set.

217 Lloyd waner cuts? 113 big train? 147 Jackie?? Dear god!
The very high numbered cuts like these are signatures from cancelled checks. Upper Deck bought boxes of the players' old cancelled checks from their families' estates, so they were set with signatures for years without having to buy cuts from documents or old signed 3x5 cards.

Maine of course......
Very impressive for those of you who have one of the rare autographs from this set. I love the Wagner with the Pirates inscription and that it is not from a check. Interesting that some are numbered 107/113 (Johnson) while others just say /7 (Ruth).

Armed guard almost didn't let me take it home. Thought it was too risky to leave the vault. Glad I could get it scanned.

Very cool thread. It's amazing how many copies there were of some guys like Jackie with nearly 150 and did Cobb have like 25?! Nuts. I mean Ruth even had 7?! Lok

It was an unbelievable set, and many of the "lesser" names were great players from way back in the early days. I think that Upper Deck overestimated their ability to pick up cuts and put more in that set than they could ever match, but it makes for an amazing set, and in many cases the signatures were really nice looking.

I believe the checklist is 87 cards (plus the never-before-seen Gilmo) so I think if people get involved we should be able to get the whole thing in pictures.
