Each one played a short recording of a significant Ripken game, as called by the announcer(s).
I dug these out today because I wanted to see if the batteries were replaceable and I had forgotten. I was also afraid of possible acid leakage (if this type does that over time like regular batteries). Neither talk anymore and the sad part is, the batteries are not EASILY replaceable. I'm sure it can be done with a steady hand, a magnifying glass and a small soldering iron. I think this technology could have been a bigger hit had they made the batteries easily replaceable and cheap enough.
If you have never seen these, they are very similar to the thicker booklet cards we see frequently these days.
I couldn't get a better scanned image of the centers because the flaps didn't open all the way flat w/o damaging the card (another flaw to the design).
