The Braves have agreed to a four-year deal with free agent outfielder Nick Markakis, Jeff Passan of Yahoo Sports reports on Twitter. He will be guaranteed $44MM in the pact, per Dan Connolly of the Baltimore Sun (Twitter link).

Wait, so they trade Heyward and then give Markakis 11 million a year? I like Markakis and that is a solid value signing but I am a bit confused on what the Braves are seeing and doing.

"I've seen this drama played out many, many times. Wish Nick Markakis well, but as much as I'd like to have had #21 back in RF, Dan Duquette didn't become executive of the year only doing popular things. If he had signed any other player not named Markakis to this contract with these same stats, he be catching hell from fans.Because Markakis was overpaid in his long-term deal 6 years ago...wasn't justification for overpaying this time around.

Braves have added Markakis and Miller and dropped Heyward thus far. I think they are a better team.
