Just realized after reading it on Twitter that today marks the 24th anniversary of probably the most important trade in Blue Jays history. On December 5, 1990 Toronto sent Fred McGriff and Tony Fernandez to San Diego in exchange for Roberto Alomar and Joe Carter.

If memory serves, neither McGriff nor Fernandez stayed in SD very long. Fernandez was back in Toronto for their 1993 World Series win, while McGriff was part of the 1993 Braves team that Philadelphia defeated in the NLCS before facing Toronto.

As a footnote, the trade also meant that John Olerud became the starting first baseman for the Blue Jays, much to the delight of a young Canadian Olerud fan at the time! :)
