So this weekend, well Sunday/Monday was the event I volunteer at every year.
Sunday started off at my buddy's house prepping for the event. I walked in to find Bill Nahorodny and his lovely wife Gayle chatting in the kitchen with another man. Bill and Gayle are wonderful people and I love chatting with them, Bill and my wife are even Facebook friends (cuz I don't have a FB). Bill told some great stories including one about the Mad Hungarian trying to hit Lee Mazzilli in a game, and missing with 4 straight pitches, and getting so mad, he charged Maz at the plate. Naha tackled Maz who was super confused and Bill just told him to stay down and he'd be fine...might not come across as funny but it was a great baseball story to listen to. We did our prep work and then got to Moravian College for the Meet and Greet reception. Me and another kid ran the VIP autograph room with the help of a couple of the college girls (who are always helpful when it comes to getting major leaguers to sign, a pretty girl always helps) We did our thing, then watched the reception and all the awards and such, and got home after midnight to wake up early for the golf tournament the next day.
I got to golf a little late since my son came with, but was still there in time for a nice breakfast and a chat with Jon Warden, who was a 68 World Series champ with the Tigers, and also was the original guy to get his baseball encyclopedia signed. He taught my buddy about it, who taught me and the other guy, so we always refer to Warden as the Godfather of the Encyclopedia, so I had him add that to my encyclopedia.
We finished getting all the autographs we needed for the group (and our selves) I think the only things we missed were some Bob Boone cards (he wasn't happy about doing them) and a bunch of Stan Bahnsen stuff (hard time getting a hold of him). Other than that I think we killed it. Even a couple guys who weren't golfing stopped by to say hi and sign some stuff including Jack Fisher, who usually comes, and Ray Burris who is the pitching coach for the local AAA team. Ray even decided, after some urging from his lady friend, to sign my sons onesie
Then since Ray did, I figured why not add a Hall of Famer, so I had Fergie Jenkins sign it too
Hanging out afterwards I was BSing with Naha again, and he had Gayle take a photo which I stole off his Facebook page
And I still think it's super cool to have an exmajor leaguer post a picture of me and my son on his facebook page
And especially be so complementary!
And while I was getting those pictures from my wife's Facebook I also saw Naha posted this one, From the inside of the VIP room
I'm the blurry one but you Philly fans should recognize the two closest guys !
Next post will be some of the autos I got
I know it was long, thanks for reading!
