When he was 11, Cole attended the 2001 World Series in Arizona, with front-row seats to Games 6 and 7.
A newspaper published a photograph of Cole at a game, holding a sign that said “Yankees Fan Today, Tomorrow, Forever.” The family stayed at the team hotel.
“Derek Jeter was in the lobby, with Bernie Williams and Paul O’Neill,” Cole said in 2008 on a conference call with reporters after the draft. “We were like, ‘Oh my God.’*”
