Brilliant, Alex. Just brilliant. Super Mario

Cardinals pitching prospect Alex Reyes has been suspended 50 games for a second positive test for a drug of abuse.
Reyes revealed in a statement that the drug he tested positive for was marijuana. The suspension includes what remains of the Arizona Fall League season, so that will shave a few contests off of Reyes' regular season absence next year. One of the top prospects in baseball, Reyes posted a 2.49 ERA with 151 strikeouts over 101 1/3 innings between High- and Double-A this season. He should still have a good shot to end 2016 in the majors, but the suspension obviously doesn't help his chances.

Should there be a penalty for smoking pot? There is though, and Reyes made a dumb career decision but one that he can recover from. Until there is a policy change, just make your money and move your career forward.

Not harsh enough, IMHO

Papelbon was suspended for 3 games for throwing at Machado. So, the offence of a pitcher throwing at a hitter is considered over 15x less serious than someone who may have taken a couple hits of a joint in the privacy of his hotel room-- while not on the job. Jared Weaver threw a high 90's fastball at the face of Alex Avila and got just a 6-game suspension.

Hitters like Soler can charge an entire team with a bat in an extremely violent, threatening posture, and get just a 5 game suspension.

But Reyes gets 50 games? And it's not harsh enough? Please explain. By the way, his drug use was reported to be "recreational" and not performance-enhancing.

I don't disagree with you at all. I think it's absurd, but, you have to follow what the rules are, and not what you think the rules should be, ESPECIALLY when you have as much to lose as a promising AND NOT YET FILTHY RICH young athlete.

Simply stated it is against the rules like other have said. If you continue to break them then the penalty gets even worse. There isn't a fine line or any gray area here.
