Before stepping up to bat in the bottom of the ninth in the super regional with his team down 3-0 to College World Series favorite Louisville, Sam Cohen was a third string catcher with only 26 at bats the entire season. Right now, he is a UCSB legend after donging a grand-slam that would send UCSB to its first College World Series in its program’s history. Oh ya, and the pitcher he hit it off is a first round draft pick whose allowed one homer in 19 games and arguably the best closer in college. The loss broke a streak of 186 consecutive games Louisville had won when leading after eight innings. Congrats to UCSB and to Sam Cohen, let the beer flow like the Salmon of Capistrano tonight.
