While 740 is not a typical milestone, it becomes one when there are so few left to add. Today's mail brought in a huge addition of a HOF Astros player that most people never knew played for Houston.

Eddie Mathews, HOF 1978

I won't destroy your bandwidth by posting 740 Astros autographs, but if you'd like to browse through my progress check out www.AstrosAtoZ.com. While you are there, read some of my interviews and check out my needs list! It may be shrinking, but that doesn't mean you don't have someone I still need.

Great addition! Was finding him on an Astros item difficult?

Yes. There are only five cards made before his death that feature him in an Astros uniform.

1965 Astros Team Issue #9
1967 Dexter Press #133
1967 OPC #166
1967 Topps #166
1987 Astros Shooting Stars #23

I have never even seen the Shooting Stars card, much less a signed copy. The only one that pops up with any frequency is the 1967 Topps, but then I ended up bidding against signed set builders. I have a limit on every player I need that I'm willing to spend and that 1967 Topps card always goes way over it.
