I have been discussing this with a friend a bit, and I think its a good topic of conversation.

What are some players who exceeded expectations in the twilight of their career? You know the guy, he is supposedly done but comes back for his one last hurrah.

I was extremely happy with Frank Thomas in 2006...which was followed by a solid 2007...2008 kind of ruined that.

I have to say Mike Mussina's 2008.

Easily one of the best by a player considered "done".

Not that "old" but Mike Mussina's final season comes to mind...

Before last season most would have said that Manny was on the decline (based on the previous years numbers and his age.) I still wonder if this past season was somewhat of a fluke, and if he's approaching the end.

Chipper Jones has taken his game to a new level the last few seasons despite missing a decent amount of time. He's not very "old" but he's no youngster, and yet he keeps raking.

Fernando Tatis..He's not that old but he was on nobodies radar and he had a pretty big year for the Mets.
