What a story this guy's turning out to be. Collins stands 5'7" and weighs 155 pounds. He's a pitcher.
JP Ricciardi signed him as a free agent at the age of 17 after seeing him pitch somewhere in Massachusetts. The Jays send him to Lansing (Lo-A) where he threw 68 innings in 39 games and recorded a 1.58 ERA with 98 (!) strikeouts against 32 walks. Despite these numbers, BA ranked him as the Jays 30th prospect, seemingly a throwaway nod to a spectacular season.
Obviously his odds are long due to his size but the Jays showed some faith and promoted Collins to Dunedin (Hi-A) for 2009. He's now in his age 19 season and has pitched 7.3 innings with 13 strikeouts, 1 hit and 0 walks.
His road will no doubt be tough but how in the hell can you not cheer for a guy like this?
