as i tigers fan i just cant figure it out, to go from one of the best pitchers in his first season even throwing a no hitter to a pitcher that quite honestly shouldnt even be in the starting rotation, he has looked like dog crap this year once again, anybody have any reason why?

not to burst your bubble buddy, but as your guy still has a 9 ERA, zito threw 7 shutout innings tonight...

Zito has been bad for a couple years now...one quality start doesn't all of a sudden put him back at the level he was at with Oakland.

Verlander's stats can be seen here: http://mlb.mlb.com/stats/individual_stats_player.jsp?c_id=mlb&playerID=434378

He was one of the best pitchers in baseball his first two seasons, and has not been effective since. It's kind of tough to understand how this can happen. One thing that has had a small effect is that he is now the staff ace, so he pitches against other teams' top pitchers most of the time. Obviously it's harder to win against better pitchers.

He changed his fastball last year to try to get more movement and sacrifice some velocity and I just don't think it helped him at all. I haven't followed him thus far this year, but he still has good stuff and can be tough. It just seems like last year was a product of bad luck. There was a stretch of like 11 starts in a row last year where he gave up 2 runs or fewer 9 times (and only 3 runs the other two starts), but he only ended up with 4 or 5 wins during this stretch because the Tigers weren't scoring runs for him.

He might not be the dominant pitcher he was only a couple years ago, but he still has the stuff to do so. It's just a matter of whether or not he can put it back together in his starts.
