When player collections hit a dry spell?

Well, currently, my Eric Davis collection has hit a bit of a dry spell. Nothing new showing up anywhere for quite a while.

So, I am contemplating starting a basketball PC of a former UK player (still not sure which I want to go with).

So, what does everyone else do when they hit a bump in the road in their player collection? Start a side project? Or wait it out?

patience is the key. it gives you the chance to save some funds when something high end pops up.

I either wait it out, save the money I would normally be spending on my player to buy up stuff when it hits ebay, or I buy cards for an autograph set I'm working on.

or be dumb like me and add more players! LOL

work on a jersey or auto set..i know that is VERY hard for you player collectors haha

I have a game used ball from a home run Eric Davis hit back in the day against the Tigers. It's one of my favorite items in my Reds PC.

That's the way I am leaning (even though 1 is bad enough). I am looking over some checklists of ex-UK basketball players to see which has a feasible list.

Nice! I got a game used auto bat in a couple months ago (when he was with LA).

Dry spell for player collection? What's that?

My McGwire collection has hit a huge brick wall. Nothing has popped up. And the 1 mac i want i do not feel like shelling out 575 dollars for is on the bay right now with a BUY it now for 800. So i have decided to start a PC of Longoria. Instead of goin after the chromes right now, im gonna try to snag some of the lower end Ud 2008 Autos.

Yeah, I didn't catch it I am only 21 so I don't really remember Eric with the Reds but my Uncle's girlfriend caught when she was younger and gave it to me knowing I was a Reds fan.

That's still awesome. He's a great guy too. He's usually at Redsfest if you're around the Cincy area. I got my authentic '90 WS jersey auto'd last year.

Tim Lincecum spell now, with all his cards so expensive and buying when he was expensive, i havne't had a new addition in forever. Besides a few base i pick up.

Sometimes when I get frustrated with nothing popping up on eBay, I try all my secondary methods of finding cards. I blogged about finding player collection cards here. If it's a really dry spell, sometimes I'll look at the classified ads in Beckett, the dealer listing ones, and write an email to the dealers asking if they have any rare cards of my player. I've landed a few toughies that way.

I used to be a player collector of a certain coach choking, children feeding basketball player (Sprewell). I had collected him in his ups and downs from 1994-2007. He only had 2 Certified NBA Autos (96-97 Skybox Autographics black & blue) and a plethora of crappy game used.

I did have some nice items, including the 97-98 Metal Universe Precious Metal Gems and some of those harder to find late 90s inserts.

I was sick of getting out bid on certain cards, and I didn't really feel like collecting him any more, so I put an auction up and in the Subtitle, I put "Selling entire collection". I proceeded to sell many of my nicer pieces to 3 major collectors (1 in AZ and 2 in Australia)

But, to go back to answer the original question, I sold my player collection off and started an even more challenging PC, All Pacific Brands for Baseball & Football from 1995 to "The End"

BTW, That E. Davis card will be in the mail this week. Been busy and haven't gotten it to you yet.

sadly, if i hit a wall (which doesn't happen too much), I tend to dump money into wax. That might be the WORST thing you can do.
