07/21/09 UPDATE:

The 2009 Rookie Class is easily shaping up as one of the best of the decade
(alongside 2001 and 2007)! Prior to the season, Baseball America released
their "Top 100 Prospects" list for 2009 and we've kept track of how many of
these blue-chip youngsters have been called up during the first-half of the
2009 season. To date, six of the top seven players on Baseball America's
list have made it to the majors in 2009 including #1 Matt Wieters, #2 David
Price, #3 Colby Rasmus and #4 Tommy Hanson . . .and every one of them will
have signed Rookie Cards in the 2009 SP Authentic Future Watch Subset!
Please note, in addition, Nippon League All-Stars Koji Uehara (Orioles) and
Kenshin Kawakami (Braves) are also included!

We listened to the concerns that dealers and customers had for previous
releases of SP Authentic Baseball where boxes were full of signed RC's of
31-year-old middle relievers. The 2009 edition is an about face with a
checklist littered with Top Prospects! In fact, 17 of the 25 players are
ranked amongst the 100 top prospects in all the minors and 11 of them are
the #1-ranked prospect within their respective organizations!

This year's Future Watch Autographs checklist is loaded with twenty-five
star prospects including Brett Anderson (A's), Gordon Beckham (White Sox),
Dexter Fowler (Rockies), Tommy Hanson (Braves), Derek Holland (Rangers),
Kenshin Kawakami (Braves), Matt LaPorta (Indians), Fernando Martinez (Mets),
Gerardo Parra (Diamondbacks), Rick Porcello (Tigers), David Price (Rays),
Pablo Sandoval (Giants), Colby Rasmus (Cardinals), Travis Snider (Blue
Jays), Koji Uehara (Orioles), Matt Wieters (Orioles) and Jordan Zimmermann
(Nationals).

. Tommy Hanson, P, Braves #4 Ranked Prospect of 2009

. Matt Wieters Future Watch Auto RC #1 Ranked Prospect of 2009
Available ONLY in UD Products!

. Colby Rasmus, OF Cardinals #3 overall ranked prospect of 2009

. Pablo Sandoval, 3B, Giants 22 years old, 15 HRs, 55 RBI, .333 Avg.
at the All-Star Break

. Gordon Beckham, 3B, White Sox #20 Ranked Prospect of 2009

Not to be a conspiracy theorist but could this have anything to do with the Razor - UD relationship?

Either UD showing zero respect for Razor
OR
UD-Razor relationship
OR
UD screw up

My gutt feeling = top row or bottom row

::facepalm:: :lol:

Technically, they're right.[/quote:259x5chq]

Actually technically they are wrong because it's clear that at least on paper that the two companies are separate entitys who have different staff.

One might argue that since they allegedly have the same financier that they are one in the same, but technically they are very separate companies.

This could have been a nice thread about how Upper Deck is doing something right, instead someone felt the need to point out that Razor is still relevant. Weiters is a fraction of the checklist and Razor has nothing to do with 2009 SP Authentic.

I'm glad UD is taking advantage of the excellent new talent in the majors this year; this could be a pretty cool product. Any word regarding on-card autos?

Why would they ever include these scrubs in the first place????

We listened to the concerns that dealers and customers had for previous
releases of SP Authentic Baseball where boxes were full of signed RC's of
31-year-old middle relievers

What, you don't like pulling Devern Hansack cards?

Anyway, this product looks sweet. If only we could see some scans. I'll have to get a Rasmus.

The rookie logo rule might not have allowed for them to use a bunch of "desirable" players. Who were the big call ups last year? Nothing compared to the quality and quantity this year. 2009 is the perfect storm for UD to do something salable for the rookie logo.

I'm thrilled about the UD products. I think what we're about to see is a shift in interest toward the licensed Wieters cardboard. Time will tell but I always think the *real* rookie cards will always rule the hobby. Should be interesting to watch play-out.

Is SP Authentic going to have the USA Auto's (like that of Ultimate, Sweet Spot, etc.)??? If so that'd be one helluva product! :D

I think many collectors have been waiting patiently for ML-licensed Wieters cards (myself included).

Also, SPA will probably have clear sticker autos like recent years.
