Is it Wakefields back again?

Yeah Espn is saying strained lower back, From a side session on Saturday.

Happy Clay is up, b/c really I was at the point where if they are not going to trade him then let him contribute...but not that excited that it is in place of Wakefield, who IMO has pitched above and beyond expectations this year and his been pretty consistent.

Wakefield > Clay

I don't think anyone is saying over all Clay is better than Wake, but people should be happy to see the teams top minor leaguer who just had a great start vs the Blue Jays last week up. Wake is having a great year, he is the Sox all time wins guy, but let's not get crazy and think he is an amazing pitcher right now. He didn't even make the teams post season roster in 2007.

Sorry man, always been a big Wakefield fan from way back in the mid-90's when Canseco was on the Red Sox.

Hope Clay pitches well.

Is Clay now out of options? If so what happens when Wakefield is better?

Option lasts for the entire season if im not mistaken no matter how many times a player is sent up and down
Correct, I explained it in the last Clay thread.

Guys, there is no set amount of options. When a player is called up (to the 40 man roster), he has 3 years where he can be sent down to the minors an unlimited amount of times.

Lets use Reggie Willits as an example

2006: Placed on 25 man roster. (Uses 1 option year)
2007: Spent all season on the 25 man roster
2008: Juggled around between MLB and AAA (Uses 2nd Option Year)
2009: Juggled around MLB and AAA (Uses his 3rd and Final Option year)

Reggie Willits can be sent down to AAA an unlimited amount of times for the remainder of the year, but next year, if he does not stay on the 25 man, he will have to go through waivers each time he is sent down to AAA. When a player is sent down to the minors, he can not be brought back up to the MLB for 10 days, unless a player on the MLB squad is added to the DL.

Hope this helps some of you confused about options.
