Cameo cards?

Is there a list of cards featuring "cameos" of other players? For the player collector, these are really great. The guys at the Upper Deck booth at the National were really intrigued when I asked them about it. Truthfully I was surprised that the topic had never crossed their mind. At this point, it'd take an army to start getting a strong list together. However I think it's still an interesting project. As a player collector myself, I like to know who the additional players are that appear on the cards I own. for me, it's fun to figure out who the guy was wearing #16 for the Twins and is sliding into second base.

I know I'm not the first guy to think of this, so my question is if there's a ongoing thread, list, page, etc. that shows these. If not, maybe there could/should be?

I know we dont have a list on here but one of the player collectors might know of a list somewhere. There are a few that i know who collect cameo cards.

I used to go through my basketball card looking for Michael Jordan cameos. I has a nice stack of them at one point.

It's hard to do a comprehensive list for all players. There's just too many cards featuring multiple players. Since I do collect cameos (here's my Grace cameo collection), here's a few things I've learned.

1) The best place to find them is in team boxes at card shows. Infielders are often pictured in the background of pitcher cards. Players are often seen in celebration shots with other teammates.

2) There are a very few sellers that list cameos. I think oddballmall.com is one of them.

3) If you know of another player collector of a teammate of your guy, ask them if your guy appears on any of their player's cards. I've had Dawson, Sandberg and Sosa collectors help me out pointing out a few cards.

4) The card backs of early 1990's Upper Deck issues had lots of cameos.

Good luck in your search. I personally think a cameo list would be too hard to compile, but I would welcome one!

Thanks for the tips! I agree that it's completely unreasonable to even attempt to create a comprehensive list. But it wouldn't be hard to post scans from time to time. I've got more than a few cards of Vizquel that show another player in the background or vice versa. It wouldn't be hard to list cards something like:

1994 Stadium Club #93 Omar Vizquel (Juan Bell sliding)
1994 Pinnacle #427 Tony Fernandez (Omar Vizquel sliding)

It's a 1997 Zenith 8x10 of Alex Rodriguez with Tony Clark in the background.

I collect them of my player.. I have Pinnacle, SP, topps and upper deck issues of players such a Jeff Huson, Luis Sojo, Juan Gonzalez, Barry Bonds and Mark McGwire which all have cameo's of my guy sliding running or standing in the photo.

we did have a thread on this a little while back but I don't remember it being a long drawn out one like some of the outstanding threads player collectors have ongoing in here.

I wouldn't want to see a WHOLE THREAD about other players' cameo cards.... We have already had a couple threads about them, and, while fun, they didn't last too long!
I don't know... I would love something pointing out Gwynn cameos I don't know about, Say for example I find a Orel Hershiser card with Will Clark standing next to him, I could point that out for the Clark collectors? ...but that would be a tedious thread! PM would work better!

Ive been hunting these down lately and came up with 26 so far..24 of them are actual player cards and 2 are checklists with his name on it. Im sure there are more 80's checklists for me to go after as well.. will have to research it.

Seems to me ages ago on Beckett there was a Cameo cards thread, but it's gone for sure. Hard to find, but there are several out there that are fun. Sounds like we need a thread with scans!

Another good way is to go to checkoutmycards. Enter players that could show your player in the background and the year they were teammates. Nowhere near as fast but images help verify.

Another thing is, not everyone recognizes all players....For instance not everyone would know this is Chipper Jones on the right.

with my Cameo cards.. the majority are players that aren't his teammate either. Canseco is pictured sliding into bases on cards of Julio Franco, Jeff Huson, Luis Sojo, Pat Kelly, Cal Ripken Jr, Steve Sax for example. the only ones I have so far that have him with a teammate are with his brother Ozzie and Juan Gonzalez on another. I will scan and post all my cameo cards as soon as I have the last few in hand.
