In Series One, they are 1 of 25 players per 1,152 packs on average. So at 1 in 28,800 packs (per player), that's 1 in every 1,200 boxes, if they were 12 box cases, that's 1 in every 100 cases (per player). How many cases were made of Series One? Anyone have any idea? These could be more scarce than people think if the case amount is low. One player out of the 25 in every 100 or so cases... yikes.

Not sure, but the 1995-1996 Gold Refractors for basketball had an announced run by Topps of 150 copies. Sure, that's 2 years before the baseball version, but it's something to go by at least. BTW, I got this info from the January 2008 Beckett baseball that I found lying around here.

The Embossed Gold Refractors are WAY more rare than the regular Gold Refractors. I would love to know how many exist.

Topps made a TON of Finest that year. I'd like to think somewhere between 40-66 copies of each card.

EDIT: Doesn't George Calfas have a set of these - I think he believes there are fewer copies than I do.

I know, I was just giving stats on the regular gold refractor. I would estimate the embossed at 1/3 the print run, or 50 copies.

I'd guess a little higher, around 75-100. I've seen 4 different copies of the Smoltz in the past 2 years.

You never see these. When they came out, they were very tough to find then. I'd "guess" maybe 50 or so.

2 of which were pulled by the same person

Wasn't it like 10 years apart also? Talk about odds...

I wouldn't bet that high. In ten years I've only seen 3 Andruw Jones, 2 of which surfaced in 05 when he should have been MVP.

I had a Bagwell one of these. It was terribly cut, the person I got it from said it came from an uncut sheet, not a test.

This is the only Piazza I've ever seen. I think it's the only 9.5 also.

If there are 50 each, that would mean there were around 5,000 cases produced. Did they make that much of this "high end" stuff? There were only 4,950 cases made of 1995 Select.

You can still find boxes, there are even some on eBay now. For years packs were inserted into those value boxes at Kmart and Walmart...funny to think somebody without hobby knowledge picking some of these up.

appox 37 is the print run for the 1997 Gold Embossed Die Cut Refractors. I know of 6 complete sets. Unique and I have talk about these in the past, one of the nicest sets of the 90s.

How did you come to that number? Is it the same for football?
