At work we were having a discussion about the imaginary idea:

What is your team if you merged both NY teams for one team? A few things to keep this simple...

1- There will be a DH
2- Salaries dont matter (its an imaginary team)
3- No relief puitching, just a starting five and a closer
4- Only one player per position (other than pitching)
5- Assuming all players are healthy (considering most of the Mets are hurt)
6- Only using current staff, no former players.

3rd Base--

I understand someone feeling that way. I'm a Yankee fan and love Jeter, but for the purposes of this exercise, I'd take Reyes. When he's right, the guy is just electric. He's underrated. He's also far superior with the glove.

I think this is about as good as it gets. There may be 1 or 2 that could go eithor way, but for the most part, it's pretty clear cut on the options. Oh, and as far as Jeter.... If anyone is building this team with the future in mind, it's a no brainer to take Reyes. Even right now you would be hard pressed to convince me that Jeter is the better option for the immediate future. I just do not see anything Jeter is really better at, aside from leadership(which I personally do not believe but will give the benefit of the doubt). I'll take Reyes and his speed, glove, talent, and whole future over Jeters future any day of the week and have a better team and SS for it.

jeter has a better average and comes up with clutch hits, reyes has shown me nothign so far in his career besides speed....with that said i agree with cowboys..im throwing arod at short and wright at third

I'd probably take a healthy Reyes over Jeter. But something about Reyes makes me wonder if we haven't already seen the best of him. His game is his legs and if he keeps injuring them, he's won't be the same player. And as far as ARod at SS, I'm not sure he could play there now that he has gotten much thicker and had the hip surgery.
