Re: ~Interesting Sports Facts~

Wayne Gretzky had more ASSISTS in his career than any other player had total POINTS in their career. This is one of the MANY reasons he is and always will be, The Great One.

Re: ~Interesting Sports Facts~

The 1990-1993 Buffalo Bills are the only team in NFL HISTORY to win 4 consecutive Conference Championships and go to four consecutive Super Bowls. A truly amazing feat by one of the best ever teams that will most likely never be duplicated.

Re: ~Interesting Sports Facts~

If Hank Aaron never hit a HR, he still would have ended his career with over 3000 hits.

11. O.J. Simpson - 2,021 - 9
Honorable mention; Thurman Thomas - 1,943 - 11

The 12 most productive RBs in league history. Makes for a pretty definitive all-time top ten list (in no particular order) if you ask me.

Re: ~Interesting Sports Facts~

Ty Cobb won the 1909 Triple Crown with 9 HR's and all were inside the park HR's. Also led the league with 76 stolen bases making him the only Triple Crown Winner to do this.

Ernie Banks actually played more games @ 1B (1,259) then he did @ SS (1,125).
He is universally considered a SS.

Lou Brock was cut by the Cubs do to his lack of power. He worked on that and called them back saying he was Banks' nephew and got another tryout. Maybe they should've kept him longer than 3 seasons.

Lou Brock is the only member of the 3,000 Hit Club that didn't reach 1,000 RBIs.

One of my favorite all time players (Amos Rusie) was traded by the Giants to Cincinnati for a relatuvley unknown minor league pitcher. Rusie would never win a game for the Reds and the minor leaguer would go on to win 373.

The minor leaguer? Christy Mathewson.

Another interesting sidenote was that Reds owner, John Bush, acquired Mathewson from the minors for $100.00. Bush was about to become owner of the Giants and traded Mathewson to the team he was about to acquire.

Michael Jordan was cut by his high school coach thus not being good enough to even suit up one year. I know most of you already know this, but I thought it belongs in this thread. I find it to be one of the most interesting facts I have ever heard.
