"Latin Legend Roberto Clemente Added to the Upper Deck Baseball Line-up for 2009 and Beyond
Upper Deck will include game-used memorabilia and cut signature cards of the deceased Pirates superstar in 2009 and 2010 baseball releases
Carlsbad, CA (September 1, 2009) – For many people, especially in Puerto Rico, Roberto Clemente was more than just a MVP and Hall-of-Famer, he was a hero. In his eighteen seasons with Pittsburgh he was a twelve time All-Star, but it was his constant charity work with the underprivileged in developing countries and service with the United States Marine Corps Reserves that helped add to his legend.
Upper Deck is proud to have reached a deal with the estate of Roberto Clemente to provide collectors and sports fans around the world with rare collectible trading cards of this inspirational star. Clemente cards will begin appearing this December in Upper Deck’s 2009 Ultimate Collection Baseball. For 2010, Clemente will appear in at least six of the Upper Deck’s baseball releases.
“In looking at names of players to add to our future products, Roberto Clemente is a name that we’re thrilled about bringing to our customers,” said Gabriel Garcia, Upper Deck brand manager for baseball. “He is a legend in every sense of the word and we anticipate collectors will be ecstatic if they find his cards in Upper Deck Baseball products in 2009 and 2010.”"
