Chris Young is currently batting .197 in 407 plate appearances. Arizona has played 140 games so far, so CY would currently need 434 plate appearances to qualify for the batting title. It seems like he will play in most of the Dbacks remaining games, so he is going to need 95 more plate appearances to get the 502 necessary to qualify. With only 22 games left for the Dbacks, he will probably only get 80-90 more plate appearances. Thus, he probably won't become the first player to bat under .200 since Rob Deer in 1991 (he batted .179 that year).

So who has the lowest BA this year of players that qualify?

Fixed. ;)

I like how Bill rewarded the Superbas faith in him, who brought him back for the 1910 season after finishing '09 with a .139 average in 112 games, by raising his average to a whopping .161 for the year!

Guess in '11, when he hit .132 in 84 games, he realized it was time to hang up the spikes. :(

If Greg Norton had the plate appearances he would be making a run at that record.

That guy is awful.

If a guy doesn't have enough PA to qualify, can we do the reverse of what they do for the batting title? Give him a hit for every missing PA and see if he still 'wins'......

JJ Hardy currently has 438 PA and a .226 batting average.

With 23 games left he needs an average 4-5 plate appearances in 13-16 games.

Do able, but probably only if he can start to hit a little better, thereby improving (if only slightly) his average.

It would be an impressive feat, especially since he was sent down to the minors for a period of time.
