Why isn't Andrew Bailey considered the ROY favorite?

Because you touch yourself at night

:p

Seriously though, it's because no one will EVER recognize a relief as an award-worthy candidate at such a young age. They barely get respect when it comes to awards as is.

There have been many relievers win Rookie of the Year.
Here are some recent ones:

2005 – AL - Huston Street
2000 – AL - Kazuhiro Suzaki
1999 – NL - Scott Williamson
1989 – NL - Gregg Olsen
1986 – NL - Todd Worrell

2 every ten years or so isn't really a lot.

In that same time span, there have been only 5 third baseman.
And only 2 second baseman.
And the ratio is similar in other decades.
So relief pitchers actually win as often as third basemen and more than second basemen.

@ a Baseball Card Show
Olsen won it in the A.L in 1989 over of course the most talked about prospect Baseball had seen since Kirk Gibson.
So to say they get no respect as awards go it was false in 1989.

was Chicago now Glendale AZ
Should be interesting to see when final votes are tallied

Sometimes hobby message boards can be deceiving because opinions often driven by stashes

I think he will be top 3

The fact that he is on a below average team on West Coast hurts his pub.

Same can be said about Garrett Jones (minus WEst Coast thing). If he was in NY/ATL/etc he would be STRONG NL contender

And there's your answer. This isn't a baseball message board. It's a baseball card message board. And sometimes those things seem completely different.

most of those years didn't have a hitter or SP that was that great either. a closer can win if they have alot of hype behind them. Street, Kaz, and Olsen had a ton of hype when they were rookies. Williamson is a mystery cause i always thought Preston Wilson should have won the ROY that year easily. Worrell simply did not have any competition. Will Clark, Bonds, and Kevin Mitchell were rookies that year but their numbers were pretty subpar in comparison. Bailey doesn't really have any hype behind him like some of these other rookies do. I don't see him getting the press that guys like Andrus, Niemann, Beckham, Porcello, or even Wieters. That sways voters.
