imo psa is far more reputable and reliable than bgs. i have some bgs slabbed cards in my collection but i only buy them when the price is right.

I like PSA but personally feel that they are pushovers with their grading. But they do have their following and some people will only buy PSA. Nice grades though!

I have all three big graders in my collection, and still like PSA for post-war vintage.
The PSA Registry forces me (and it is a force) to buy their slabs for my vintage Aaron collection. And the fact that they seem to care about trimming in a way BGS does not, makes me prefer them for vintage in general.

But I FAR prefer BGS slabs. They are waterproof, UV protected, and the cards don't slide around in the case. Probably most importantly, they are way more tamper-proof than PSA's slabs. Even *** has better cases than PSA.

I know people (especially the old farts that have the monster registries) hate change, but PSA NEEDS to improve their slabs.
The craigslist scams are simple enough proof of that.

And nice poppage!

I sent in 6 BGS 9.5s for PSA cross-over, 4 came back minimum grade not accepted (they failed to make PSA10)

It's a pretty standard held belief (even amongst PSA loyalists) that they will almost never cross cards to their equivalent grade when it's still in a competitors case. Cracking out and submitting is really the only way to get a fair shake...crossover success is very limited.

One legitimate reason for this is that if they can't tell if a card is unaltered, or can't get a good look at a certain portion of the card (if they suspect a small ding or surface scratch for example) they will just leave it as is. And it is obviously tough to get a real good look at a card in a BGS slab.

But there are many documented cases of trying to get a crossover and it not meeting the min grade, but then resubmitting raw and getting the desired grade (or better). Just as there are initial raw submissions that get undergraded and then cracked out and resubmitted for (sometimes much) higher grades. It's an inexact science, to be sure.

did you crack it out of the slab first.

Nice grades but i prefer bgs for modern but will not buy bvg. but they generate about the same premium if you want to sell them.

No, these are still in their BGS cases and will return to me this way.

This is the first time that I have had BGS 9.5s returned not crossed over into PSA10 holders. I do cross over subs several time throughout the year for my PSA registry sets. I have my PSA rep getting me specific reasons why these 4 were kicked back.

you cant get an honest opinion unless you crack it out of the case first. but lets see wht your rep has to say

It had been standard for PSA to blindly accept BGS 9.5 as a PSa10 due to consumer feelings toward BGS standards. I think this is a part of the PSA push back to re-establish their name and stating that they have high standards as well.

Sorry OP, did not mean to hijack the thread
