I have been in dallas for the last 10 days. All I want to do is get home to wife and puppy and sleep in my own bed....

So My corporate office said not to book our flights until 7:30 pm or later because we would be working until 5:00. So I followed the plan and made my flight for 8:00. I figured we would get out early so I looked at other flights to see if I can stand by earlier than that.

Well, of course, we get out at 2:00 and I make a mad rush to the airport, drop off my rental car and am here by 2:45. There is a flight at 4:45 and 6:00 that I try to get on.

OF COURSE, I was unable to get on either of them because other people that arrived much later than me have more frequent flyer miles than me, thus have more status.

So, I am sitting here waiting for my 8:00 p.m. flight. It is 8:15, what are you doing on the computer. My flight is now delayed until 9:30 pm and I have a feeling it will get canceled.

What a day......

I hope everyone is well, cross your fingers for me that my flight gets out!

This happened to me in........you called it "Dallas" last week. I had a ticket on my flight and of course they overbooked it. Well, this guy threw a complete hissy fit about him and his wife getting bumped to the point they almost called security. Needless to say, American Airlines doesn't have a backbone and ends up bumping my associate and I. There are two airports I cringe flying through everytime: Dallas and Memphis. These places are the Bad News Bears!

I hope you're on your flight and enjoy the weekend with your wife!

Good luck bro. Just think positive! If you got on one of the earlier flights you would have had to sit in between two fat chicks.

What airline?

United Airlines...

I am sure I will have a tiny seat with no leg room also. Perfect for a guy who is 6' 5" 240 lbs....

I now only travel American or Jetblue. Both are pretty good at accommodating you assuming the flight isn't booked. I also never understand how flights get overbooked. Its a computer system, you put in the seats, and when there are no more it says full. Its really not a difficult concept for airlines, lol

American Airlines is a third rate company. There were four of us coming back from a company field trip earlier this month with a stop over in Dallas. They conveniently canceled one of the flights back to Midland for "mechanical issues". That was complete BS. If both outgoing flights are not full they will cancel one in order to fill the other. It seems to be the norm with AA. Three of us were quick enough to make it to the counter to get the last seats on the flight back home (one guys was not so lucky).

Unfortunately, standard operating procedure is to oversell the flight if possible. The airlines have done analysis that a certain percentage of ticketed passengers don't show up (business, missed connections, etc.). Obviously, problems ensue when almost everyone shows up and there are not enough seats.

Yea, i know the procedure, its just seems pointless. Fill the plane, then let people basically get put on the waiting list for the flight. They pay for the "booked" flight and get put on the list, as well as guaranteed a seat on the next flight. If they show up for the early flight and someone else didn't show up, they get that seat. If everyone showed up, they just go on the flight they already have booked.

welcome to the "who cares about the customer" driven society. It sucks. No one seems to take pride in taking care of customers. Aren't we the ones that pay for stuff?? Their analysis can study their "ratio" of open seats vs bumping people, that will never take the place of how we are treated. If we didn't need airline travel, and it was say a place of business on a street corner, how many people would go there? What if you walked into a bar to have a beer and they said "Sorry, we no more seats, so therefore, we can put you on a list, and then you might get bumped by someone more important.." well wait, that does..happen.
But in all honesty how soon would a business collapse???

Many are unaware of their unofficial slogan..."United We Strand".

If I had a nickel for every time I happened to be on one of their flights that got either delayed or cancelled I could start a business.
