SEEing the Cal Ripken post made me think ...what baseball records will never or will never come close to be reached or broken....some come to mind

1-Cal Ripken's 2,632 consecutive games
wih all the money these players are making they feel pain and sit down for anything with out fear they will be replaced cause the contrats they have

2-games won by Cy Young's 511 wins
with the bullpen changing the game we might not see another 300 game winner

3-Joe DiMaggio's 56-game hitting streak
again with the bull pen being changed out in later innings it will be hard to see this broken

4-Pete Rose's 4,256 hits
I dont see anyone playing as long or player as hard as MR HUSTLE

5-Rickey Henderson's 130 stolen bases in a season
with the game changing into power hitters I can not see anyone coming close to this or evan having the speed RICKEY had

what other can you think of

most of these are streaks, i agree on most of them. i firmly beleive on top of all those, eric gagne's streak is secure.

as far as records, i dont think anyone will ever drive in 192 runs in a season. someone will hit 74 hr's, but not drive in that many. most pitching records will never fall

With the world's supply of pitching now at America's fingers, i don't think anyone will ever hit over .400 again.

Some great choices above - would like to add:

Fernando Tatis - 2 grand slams (and 8 RBI's) in one innings

The record that will never be broken is Cy Young's win total.
Think about this; if you won 20 games a year for 25 years straight you would still not have the record.

* The most overrated record is DiMaggio's 56 games. In theory you could go 1 for 4, 57 times in a row and you'd still only be batting .250. I'm not saying it isn't impressive but it is overrated.

One record that will never be broken is Johnny Vander Meer's 2 consecutive no-hitters. It may someday be tied, but never broken.

This is always the record I think of when this question is asked too.
