I wanted to get a thread going amongst ebay store owners. I have had one for quite some time but never really had it "stocked". At the Sun Times show I grabbed quite a bit of prospect paralell stuff and wanted to start listing some of it. I decided to add about 200 items today and came away with $117 sales already. No complaints here....

Have you had success with your ebay store?

What sells best for you?

Do you feel it is worth the monthly fee to have a store?

Thanks all

Have a great Thanksgiving

I've had an EBAY store for quite awhile.. I look at it as a $15.95 monthly fee for a table to put my stuff on at a worldwide swap meet..

There are cards that don't sell on auction, so I list them in my store, and sell them for more they would have at auction..

I mix up Auctions/Fixed Price/Store Items to get the most exposure.. I also use some of the free tools that are available, to show off other cards as you bid on or win a card from me.. or even just browse..

I know a few guys that I see at the shop have closed their EBAY store and just use the Fixed Price and auctions..

Some weeks are good, and some weeks are gooseggs.. but if you have a card of a player that suddenly starts spiking, you can list it in your store at 11:30pm and it's out there.. I've sold cards that were bought and paid for while I was sleeping..

So try it out, and you can always close it if it doesn't work for you..

Good Luck,

Have you had success with your ebay store?Absolutely. It's been my main source of income since being laid off in Feb of 2008. Instead of listing a jsy card at auction and just getting the $.99 opening bid, I can list it for $2.99 or $3.99 and it will normally sell.

What sells best for you?Anything new, any sport. Seems like by the time I'm done listing a stack of cards, I already have a few offers and a few that have just sold.

Do you feel it is worth the monthly fee to have a store?Yes, yes, yes. Where else can I sell this stuff with such low overhead?

Thanks all

Have a great Thanksgiving

I've had an eBay store for a while. For slower moving stuff or items that have a stable market price, it's a good option. Until recently, i've been selling more out of my store than I was from my auction listings, and at least with a store listing, you usually don't have to worry about things selling for too low of a price the way you can with auctions.

The one thing I would suggest is that before you start to stock it, come up with a listing template that you will use for all of your listings (store and auction), and stick to it. It will help your "store" look more professional and uniform.

I have a question. What makes having a store better than just listing cards normally with a BIN?

For higher priced items, it's worth the additional listing fees to get the item into the standard eBay search by listing it fixed price. For lower priced items, it's not.

Wow, I woke up and have sold 5 more items while I slept.

I am starting to like this :) $220 in sales in less than 24 hours.

Now I need to get it fully stocked, and find a way to keep it stocked with profitable items. Hmmmm, how to do that?

There was a dealer at a local show i was talking to and he told me that he just sold 7,000 GU jersey/Bats for $.40 each.....

Umm, wow. Wish I was in on that.

are you going to have to pay taxes on your sales if you have a store?

Starting in 2010 (I believe), everyone who sells on eBay will have to pay taxes. So be ready for having to account for eBay sales.

WOW, if that is true, my card collecting days might be over. I already pay 15-20% to ebay as it is. Imagine another big chunk of change to the government???? What is the government saying here then? That each person selling on ebay is a company?

If we have to start to pay taxes, then I will get a business license and run it as a business instead of a hobby..

As to the question of "What's the difference between a fixed price and a store item.. $0.35 for a Fixed price listing.. $0.03/$0.05 for a store item..

but ebay stores have much higher FVFs than normal listings...at least the last time I checked.

12% in the store, but a fixed price is 10% I believe

Compare the difference in FVF's.. I've had cards that don't sell in the Fixed Price for some reason, but when I list them in my store.. they get bought within a few days..

6 of one, half a dozen of the other...
