I am not a player collector, but I still want to play!
Here are a few of my favorite pickups of the YEAR!.
1. All my customs - Thanks 200lbhockey player!
2. 2009 Marked the first year of my dive into 90s inserts, so many nice ones to pick from (over 100 collected this year), but will go with this as my favorite
3. This one, definetely my WHITE WHALE after over 3 years of searching (was outbid once)
4. My favorite card of my favorite player (although my custom of RIckey is a close runner up)
Rick Porcello--Started as a prospect stash...ended up using profits to turn it into a collection. He quickly became my new favorite player when he made the Tigers and following him this year was a lot of fun.
5. Gone now as it was bought for flipping, but I had to throw it in the top 5. The money I made off this card was what funded a lot of the later additions to this collection anyway.
4. The first non-plate 1/1 I've permanently added to my collection (Thanks FCB!!!)
3. Really love the look of this set
2. Special Request Custom Sketch of one of the best moments of the 2009 season
1. It's always really satisfying to complete a rainbow like this. These are my favorite five cards.
Verlander--This collection took a backseat to Porcello this year, but I still made a few new additions that I'm pretty happy with:
3. Had the rainbow other than a gold xfractor and the 1/1 (which I still have never seen) until this guy finally popped up on eBay this year.
2. Wanted a decent patch auto, and found one that I like.
1. Had the card, but got it graded. I don't especially like graded stuff for PC cards for one reason or another... but this one makes me really happy for some reason.
Overall it's been a great year in the card world for me. Busted some wax with a couple relatively nice pulls, experienced a lot of prospecting success, started my Porcello collection which I plan on continuing indefinitely, and made a lot of PC additions that I'm very happy about. I look forward to another great year of this hobby in 2010.
