Javier Vazquez from the Atlanta Braves for Melky Cabrera and Mike Dunn, sources told ESPN The Magazine senior writer Buster Olney.

In addition, the Braves are sending right-hander Boone Logan to the Yankees, sources said.

Well Melky is nowhere near the value that Vasquez can bring...so I'll be curious to see who else was included.

So this is just a salary dump by the Braves, right? This trade doesn't even look close unless I'm missing something.

The Riverlands.
Vazquez = Garbage. I never liked him when he was on the Yankees.....He is an injury waiting to happen. Since we traded away Coke, we have no lefty other than Marte. I hope Dunn was going to be that guy, but oh well... ::facepalm:: I hate this trade even more than the Granderson one.

After an evening of rumors regarding an impending starting pitching trade, the Yankees have acquired Javier Vazquez from the Braves in exchange for Melky Cabrera. As Jon Heyman first reported the Yankees will also ship Mike Dunn and a prospect to Atlanta, and the Braves will send left-handed reliever Boone Logan to the Bronx. Joel Sherman reports that Arodys Vizcaino will be the prospect.

I first speculated last night via Twitter that Vazquez would be the Yanks’ target, and Joel Sherman’s sources told him as much this morning. Although many Yankee fans have bad memories of Vazquez’s time in New York, since being sold too low and too soon by the team, he has not made fewer than 32 starts in a season and has a K/9 IP of 8.7. Plus, this time around, he would not be expected to front the rotation.

Earlier Buster Olney reported that the Yanks had asked the Pirates about Paul Malholm, Zach Duke and Ross Ohlendorf. The Pirates though have not been too inclined to trade their young, cost-controlled arms, and Vazquez is a much better pick-up — especially at that price — than any of the Pittsburgh trifecta.

Yankee fans are already familiar with Vazquez, who spent the 2004 season in the Bronx. He made the All Star Team thanks to a 3.56 ERA and a 1.15 WHIP in 18 starts, however he slumped to a 6.92 ERA and a 1.49 WHIP in the second half due to a tired shoulder. Joe Sherman says the Yanks are concerned about the heavy workloads CC Sabathia, A.J. Burnett, and Andy Pettitte endured last season, and Vazquez will certainly provide protection for that: he’s made at least 32 starts and thrown at least 198 IP every season since 2000. Vazquez has been worth 21.3 wins over replacement over the last four years, which is nothing short of outstanding.

Logan, 25, is just a lefty specialist. He was actually dealt to Atlanta from the White Sox with Vazquez last offseason, and has lefties to a .266-.333-.398 line against. Not great, but serviceable. From what I can tell, he’s out of options, and is arbitration eligible for the first time this year.

I am so pissed at the Braves management right now. WTF do we need another underachieving corner OF for? Get someone LEGIT! Javier Vasquez was amazing last year and finished Top 5 in the Cy Young voting for god sakes. C'mon Frank Wren...

anyone know vazquez's contract?

One year, $11.5 mil

I guess I can live w/him for 1 year. Better than signing some scrub for 2-4 years. More starters available next year and it gives the whole Joba/Hughes thing more time to settle itself.

Yankee fans may hate him, however

He only needs to be a #3/#4, not the Ace he had to be back when we had him

He is not an injury risk, he has thrown 200 or more innings every year since 2000, one year he threw like 190+. That is pretty consistent

His ERA is around 4 when he was in the AL, thats fine, no one last year on the Yanks other than CC had an ERA below 4. With our offense, a 4 ERA is fine

This is much better than signing a risk like Sheets.

And also, we got rid of nothing. Melky is terrible. Now we may get to resign Damon or something, but we also shore up the bullpen since joba or hughes gets to stay in there.

Great trade for the Yankees, terrible trade for the Braves. Javy will regress but he'll still be much more valuable than Melky ever has been or will be. Melky's a 4th OF at best, everyone knows the Braves love those type of players though.

I can live with this deal. Never have been a fan of Melky but, I hope he does well in the NL.

This helps the back of our rotation for another year. I don't like giving up Arodys Vizciano...

Granderson? Swisher? They did hit 60 HRs combined last year.

and the Braves still need a 1st basemen and a centerfielder. Wren has done nothing to address the true needs of the club this offseason and we still have no idea when we are having a Fanfest.

Jesus Christ, Mike Jacobs is the last thing we need. Not to mention, platooning two lefties doesn't make a whole lot of sense. lol
