Thoughts?
They are smart. I wonder if they'll eventually lock up lee or not (but i'm pretty sure he's gonna want to test the FA, but who knows).

Awesome move by Jack Z.

Now all the Felix trade rumors can go away.

I am shocked they got the extension done though. The talk up to this point was getting this year done to avoid arbitration and then work on the extension, but that's great to get it all done at once.

Hopefully it's for 5 years to keep him around a while.

As for Lee, I don't see anything happening with Lee for a while. I think he wants to see if he'll like Seattle before even contemplating a new deal.

Sounds like the word is 5 years/$76M, which I think is the PERFECT deal for him. Buys out last couple years of arbitration and the first few of Free Agency. Love it!

Good to hear for Seattle fans!

Must be nice having people come in and have people stay too. Nice change. I do like when a player makes a deal good for him and for the deal, and not just try and get every last cent out of a situation. And he's covered in case his game goes south, although with HIS game, that's not very likely.

Have to see how the contract is structured before passing judgement. It could be heavily backloaded similar to the Josh Johnson deal, giving the mariners 2-3 years with Felix at a low price and then still have the ability to move him if necessary, or it could be similar to the Jon Lester deal which would give the Mariners the ability to keep him throughout the contract

IMO, Look for him to be traded in the 2011 offseason.

You do know that this is the Mariners, not the Marlins, Pirates or Royals. They CAN afford the pay players big money. I mean, they do have a $100M+ payroll.
