So the excitement for the Topps Million Card Giveaway has appeared to have died down and I decided to try to get one card from each year in my portfolio. I was fortunate enough to get two 1952s so that made what I believe the hardest to trade for not an issue.

Now I'm just looking for a few more from the 50s (53, 54, 57, 58), 60s (62, 65), 70s (77) before I hit my needs from 1981-2008.

Anyone else trying to do something similar with their Topps Million Card Giveaway account?

No, I sold all of mine, but I think it’s a neat idea. What are you going to do when done? Keep the cards w/topps or have them ship them to you?

I think we should talk about why I have to pay (twice) to get my card that was a "Giveaway"... it's been a popular discussion on other sites.

if Topps is gonna charge to ship you the commons you get how many people are really going to pay for them? I know the two I have they can keep unless they mail them to me for free.

I'll probably get my Astros sent to me. If you don't want yours, feel free to send them my way so I can trade em for others.

I'm trying to get Astros but nobody is trading but you
To say that no one is trading is an understatement. I have received a bunch of amazing offers that became difficult to decline. A popular trade appears to be a 1989 common for a 1952 common. I wonder if people are having any luck with that.

I'm not too overly worried about that as Topps all along has made this a very web-based promotion. Considering Topps could bankrupt themselves if people with hundreds in their portfolios requested each card to be shipped at different times, I think it causes people to think before they request delivery. I do think that the additional fee per card is a bit much (58 cents or so), so I'll be "abandoning" almost everything after the 70s when the promotion is up.

Great topic...because I have a similar goal! Only I am trying to get cards from 52-79, and by closly following the distribution I have had a ton of success in hitting only the older cards. Who knew I could get more 50's than 1980-2009 combined!

So far I have the following years in my portfolio:

1952 x2
1953
1954 x4
1955 x2
1956 x4
1958
1965 x2
1966
1967 x2
1968 x3
1971 x2
1972 x2
1976
1979 x3
1980 x2
1982
1988
1993
2000
2003
2006
2007 x2
2009

Why do you think Topps did this promotion? They knew damn well 80% of the cards will never be redeemed.

But Topps is the BEST manufacturer. Why do you think they got the exclusive license?

Now that 95% of the redemptions appear to be from 87-89 (along with a few garbage 79s thrown in) more people seem to be trading, so that's good. Of course, people can start requesting delivery as well.

As for my plan of 1952-2009, I'm a whole lot closer. I now need only a '65 single to have '52-'80 locked up and I'm pretty happy with the representations in that bunch. I'm not really going for stars, just eye appeal mostly.

Once I get the needed '65, I may punt on the '81-'09 run as I wouldn't request delivery on them probably, but for some reason I think it would be cool to have one of each year in my portfolio there.

So how is everyone else making out?

I haven't been paying attention to this. Are the cards stamped or show any indications of being different from the original cards produced.

I don't think so.

I will be curious to see what the condition looks like on the early singles.
