as I said in my Pens vintage mailday thread I have decided to start a vintage collection and figured I would make a thread so everyone can showoff their vintage cards.

I am not sure what everyone considers the cutoff for vintage but for me it is anything before and including 1989. 20 years.

what do you consider vintage?

Nice Jarcar, some of those look very gradeable. Have you ever considered it?

Like you Dave, i'm starting to think about adding more to my vintage collection. I'll scan them later, but thankfully my father kept his cards in pretty good condition. He has the complete set of the tall bay cards from 1963-1964 including quite a few doubles (example in the link):

http://cgi.ebay.ca/AL-MacNEIL-BLACK-HAW ... 1e5a99d1e0

Unfortunately, like all other kids, he decided to check off the checklist. I saw an unmarked checklist about a month ago on ebay go for like $400.

He also has numerous other years of imcomplete sets, bottle caps, and sheriff coins (http://cgi.ebay.ca/1961-62-SHIRRIFF-COI ... 53e03fd4ff)

Vintage is fun for sure, looking to add some more soon :).

definitely looking forward to seeing your scans Adam. those coins look pretty cool.

Bilko shared the link to that checklist that sold for $400 and I was blown away that someone would pay that much but set collectors are crazy.

Ya it's crazy how much they go for! I guess they are so rare just about all of them have the boxes filled in with pen. It always amazed me how much collecting has changed. My 1991 (or 92?) OPC Premier Rookie cards were protected better than my fathers cards were ::facepalm::

I need to scan my 1974-75 O-Pee-Chee WHA set. To me, that just sums up 70s hockey, from the mustaches to the names and mullets...that 66 card sets is probably my favorite hockey set.

thanks Jared.

those were some very nice cards you sold. I love the look of the 71 OPC cards. I will have to pick up some cards from that set. what year is that Morenz from? that is a cool design as well.

Alright finally get to post in this thread :D

I was going through some stuff today and managed to find a little stack of my vintage. This is just a small sample, i do own every major RC from 1961-62 all the way up to 92-93. Hopefully over time as i get a chance to go through my card room, i will pull out others and post em out. Some are in better condition then the others, but they all there. It was a project of mine back in the late 80s/early 90s and all my vintage was obtained back from either my childhood, my brothers childhood or bought at shows and shops way back in 1988-93.

Oh and Dave to answer your question. Myself personaly, i always considered Gretzkys RC year 79/80 as the first year of Hockey vintage. It is just to hard for me to call RCs of Yzerman, Robitaille, Coffey, Gilmour etc as vintage. I still can remember pulling those cards, haha

some great cards there Bilko. love the Dryden (yet another card I need), Dionne and Gretzky. looking forward to seeing more as you find them.

I was thinking that the cutoff for vintage should be 20-25 years. although it does make me feel old to think 1989 was over 20 yrs ago. I will never be able to think anything from the mass produced 90's could be vintage no matter how old I am.

Yeah even another 25 years from now, it will be hard to ever call the 90s vintage. I guess i could probably get used to calling the cards from the very early 80s as vintage, as they are nearing the 30 year old mark these days and that was still at a time when not too many people were taking really good care of their cards. I should also mention, now that i started thinking about it, that there is one RC i never did obtain from the 60's, the Bobby Orr RC.

Thanks Dave, but no New York love? Rod Gilbert, Billy Smith, Bossy or Trottier? :)
