Dude if your sister is hitting high 80's hopefully she's got a scholarship somewhere. Seriously though, I'm rooting for him to make it. But without a low 90's heater I don't think the rest of his stuff is good enough.

Small Amount of Innings + ST game+ vs AA lineups with a 87 MPH fastball = unimpressed

I like Willis but Willis should not see a major league stadium untill he proves he has his control back. 87 MPH with wildness is not going to work. Willis does seem like the kinda guy to take a demotion well.

A lot of his deception is in his delivery. He has always been "effectively wild", even when he was having success.... but effectively wild went to flat out wild when he went off the rails. Even in the high 80's he can carve a niche at the back end of a rotation if his other pitches are up to it.

Saw on 30 Clubs in 30 Days that Detroit is having him go back to his old delivery.

...he'll never be more than a lefty specialist at this point barring a miracle

Hey was hitting low 90's his outing in Dunedin, which was less than a week ago I believe. Gerald Laird said as much.

I have no problem with how Willis is being handled. To start the spring, he was given 1-2 innings at a time, and by no means has he been given anything to this point. He has proven so far that he deserves a good long look at the 4th or 5th starter spot with the Tigers. Until he proves otherwise, let's not pile on because the guy has struggled the last 3 years. Granted, I'm not counting on him to produce for my Tigers-but much like Joel Zumaya, anything he can give us is a huge bonus.

Posted on the Tigers site today:
Tigers on the mound: Starter Dontrelle Willis battled his command for much of his four innings, walking the first two batters he faced and throwing a couple pitches to the backstop. However, his damage control and ability to change speeds limited Toronto to a run on two hits with three walks and three strikeouts. He topped out on one pitch at 94 mph on the stadium radar gun, while hitting 92 several other times. Joel Zumaya hit 101, 100 and 100 mph on his first three pitches en route to a hitless sixth inning.

Only a idiot would get excited over Dontrelle. He always starts the season well then falls apart by the middle of May. By the All-Star break he will no longer be on the Tigers roster.
