I am pretty sure I know the answer to this but could be wrong. Was there a red ink variation on this card or is this just a faded auto?

Its just faded black. A faded black auto looks redish in scans.

Light Faded black ink with light shining on it from the scanner will appear reddish.

Thanks for the comparison, looks like the Ripken/ARod was on display in indirect sunlight with the Ripken side facing outward I'd guess. Never seen that before on any other cards.
