Memorial Cup Thread!!!

The Memorial Cup starts this Friday (Tomorrow) and i thought id make a separate thread for the Memorial Cup tournament so all of our NHL playoff talk doesn't get all mixed together in the Hockey Talk thread.

I will also mention that all games will be played on Sportsnet. If our American friends do not have Sportsnet on their TV (and want to watch some absolutely amazing Hockey), there will also be a live video feed of all the games on Sportsnet.ca


What is the Memorial Cup?

The Memorial Cup is a junior ice hockey club championship trophy awarded annually to the Canadian Hockey League (CHL) champion. It is awarded following a four-team, round robin tournament between a host team and the champions of the CHL's three member leagues: the Ontario Hockey League (OHL), Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) and Western Hockey League (WHL). Sixty teams are eligible to compete for the Memorial Cup, representing nine provinces and five American states.

The four teams that are competing for this year's Memorial Cup are Brayden Schenn and the Brandon Wheat Kings (Host team), Brandon Kozun and the Calgary Hitmen (WHL Champs), Gabrielle Bourque and the Moncton Wild Cats (QMJHL Champs) and the defending champs (and huge favorites), Taylor Hall and the Windsor Spitfires (OHL Champs).

For any interested parties, here are links of team previews from Sportsnet.ca to the four contending Memorial Cup teams. The links include Strengths, Weaknesses, Keys to Victory and also includes the list of NHL drafted players (and what team drafted them) and 2010 NHL draft eligible players. Windsor is considered the odds on favorite and has the deepest roster. They have 11 NHL drafted players including 3 first rounders from Calgary Flames (Greg Nemisz), Nashville Predators (Ryan Ellis) and Buffalo Sabres (Zack Kassian). Windsor also has the potential 1st and 3rd overall picks from this years draft in Taylor Hall and Cam Fowler. This tournament is the Hockey prospectors dream

hopefully the games will be streamed on atdhe.net as well because sometimes the Canadian internet feeds don't work in the U.S.

Ya it really is great hockey to watch. I kind of forget i'm watching 16-20 year olds most of the time. Such a quick tournament with the #1 seed after the round robin getting a big time advantage. It's also a great tournament to watch the stars of tomorrow. I remember watching Crosby vs Corey Perry a few years ago, Lucic steam roll everyone for the Vancouver Giants.

I'm going for my hometown province Moncton Wildcats and Team Canada member Gabriel Bourque. They also feature an over aged goalie in Nicola Riopel who has been rock solid so far in the playoffs.

I'm actually cheering for Brandon, but this is an awesome autographed item in my collection.

The First game of the Memorial Cup goes on Friday night at 6PM Mountain, which is i believe 8PM out on the East Coast. The game will be played on Sportsnet on HD and live video streaming on sportsnet.ca from your computer. Hopefully, like Dave mentions it will also be on atdhe.net. Hopefully there is no streaming problems to the USA.

On a side note, last night i was doing a google image search on Brandon Kozun and ran into an old TTM/Customs blog that it appears you were running at one time. Had some really nice stuff in there.

Memorial Cup is just getting underway, Brandon Vs. Windsor tonight.

Should be a good game, hoping Brandon beats them.

tonight's game is not being streamed on atdhe.net but the sportsnet.ca live stream does work in the U.S.

Brandon Wheat Kings, partnered with meigray authentication are wearing special commemorative jerseys in tonights game. The jersey's are then gonna be auctioned off to support the Dominion Command Poppy Trust Fund. Poppy funds are spent to support veterans and their families, buy hospital equipment, support cadet groups, and provide student bursaries.

Thats sweet that the sportsnet stream is working. Do you have the NHL network as well? Love the new avatar and signature too. Thats really neat how those OPC Winter Classic cards of Crosby show like story, never saw that before.

First 20 seconds into the game and Taylor Hall just got CRUSHED on a hit by Travis Hamonic. He looks all wuzzy and is bleeding from the nose and needs help getting up, what a hit!!!

Edit- Taylor Hall is back on the ice 3 minutes later so i guess he is ok.

I do have the NHL Network but the wife has the remote :|
