You must have missed when the 08 # 22/500 sold for over 4X what they were going for without it being listed as his jersey #. Only way you knew was by seeing it was 22 in the description. It was posted in the Heyward-Mania thread as a new refractor high and they didn't know why. Lots of detail-oriented people out there... If regular cards #ed to jersey # get a premium shouldn't a bowman chrome rc auto #ed to jersey # get a very very nice premium? Not that this is a rc auto but the 08 was. I got about $120 for my Verlander Bowmans Best 035/974 when normal ones were going for under $20. He has tons of auto rookies and that was a sticker.

I'd be thrilled as the seller, but I don't understand the drive that goes along with a matching serial/jersey number from the buyers standpoint :?

It's a pretty tough pull/find to have the jersey # card. If I was a PCer, I'd love to have them of my favorite player. I'm not going to call it a 1/1, but out of 150, 250, 500 whatever, there's only one that matches the certain jersey number which is pretty neat.

If you still don't see the significance, let me ask you two questions. 1) Who is your favorite player? 2) What's his jersey number? Odds are, you immediately know it. So it means something. Granted, to ME it sure doesn't mean an additional $300 just to have that one card.

Jersey numbered cards always carry a premium. I have an Alcides Escobar xfractor card with his jersey number on it that Im waiting to capitalize on. I may not get a ton for it but Ill get more than the average.

There was an entire thread on this subject earlier this year. It's important to some, and silly to others.

I have and will never pay a premium for a jersey # card. To me, it's just as silly as people listing #1/500 as "1st one made!!!"

I wanted one of these, but I really never pulled the trigger on any of the cards cause I wanted the "Best" one of these, and when I finally found it, I jumped at the opportunity to pick it up:

When you get to the point where you want the best of the best, there really is no way to distinguish one collection from the other, that's when the details start to come into play. It's the same thing that drives psa registry set collector guys. It's "easy" to get a complete set of 1972 topps in mint condition, anyone with enough money can get it. But to be able to get an all psa 9 set, that's what separates the casual collector from the specialist collector.

I think a better example is Michael Jordan collectors. Sure, almost anyone can buy high end Jordan stuff and call themselves a high end jordan collector. So what do the most fanatical Jordan collectors do to separate themselves from the rest, ie, make themselves the cream of the crop? You find the most unique cards for your collection that help you rise to the top.

For example, there are 75 copies of his 2003-4 exquisite limited logos autograph. Just to find one is an accomplishment in itself. But to own THE number 23/75 makes you the envy of those player specialists who may own 22/75 or 24/75 or something else, but not own THE card to have from that particular card run.

In terms of baseball guys, sure to even own that 1993 sp jeter buyback auto card is a special thing in itself. Which copy do the best of the best Jeter player collectors want? of course, the number 2/93. 92 other Jeter specialists can own a 93 jeter buyback, but only the best single collector can own 2/93.

It's pretty simple to understand.

I've got several other exquisite jersey number cards that i've kept just because they are unique, and yes, if sold, would go for at least double of what the other copies would sell for:

Right on Since you never know which one was actually the first one made. #1 is the first on serialize but you never know if they are
actually the first one printed :benson:

Very well put.

Yeah, we always have these threads, and yeah... I always respond in all of them. Jersey #'d cards make me happy. I'll save y'all the long winded explanations this round, but I absolutely have to show off some cards. :D

This top one... I don't see how anybody can say that #52/52 is not far superior to the other 51. This is a 1/1, and the other 51 aren't worth owning (in comparison).

Some really tough pulls right there, one of my best jersey # sets because of the high numbers and astronomical odds against them ever showing up!

This is an outdated picture of all of the 2005 Absolute Rickey Henderson #24/xx cards:

I've actually added a few since then...

I know it's crazy, but it's what makes me happy! I think this set sucks:

But I like those, they are all #24/xx. It was a fun challenge to collect them, and a new one could show up tomorrow and I'd be thrilled! So I'm still having fun shopping for new 24's.
