Mat Latos leads the NL with a WHIP of .95 this year and second in the Majors to only Cliff Lee's .90. Thats pretty damn good for your Rookie Year or any year for a pitcher really. (Technically his rookie year was last year, but he pitched 5 more innings than he could to qualify this year) How does this kid not get any attention? Granted, he has been in the shadows of Ubaldo and Josh Johnson but hes put up just as good if not better (depending on your faith in sabre metrics compared to conventional) seasons that both of them. This kid has dominated at every level he's reached, and is continuing to do at the Majors. When will this kid get some reconizition?

Playing in San Diego hurts his recognition alot even though the Padres are in first place but as long as his bowman chrome autos are under 15, ill be buying all day. Latos is going to be a very good major league pitcher for years to come and has shown great control and ability to over power hitters

To start things off, he is on the Padres. They just do not garner attention very often. period.

Secondly, I really think it is a bit of a stretch to put him in the same class as Ubaldo and Johnson.

He is having a great season and continues to progress. He will be a good player for some time.

Latos has pitched his 3 best games on the road (@HOU, @ SF, @TB). He also had his only really bad start against @FLA (he is from south fla, hometown jitters?). He gets another crack at the Marlins on Sunday.

Lagos.is what most people expected. He is legit. I would like to know where the love for Jaime Garcia is. His era is sub 2.

Both Latos and Garcia deserve much more attention, but has anyone seen what Jason Vargas is doing in Seattle. He is 6-2 2.66 ERA, 76 hits given up in 91+ innings...Alot of good pitching to go around these days.

I'm not sure I would really brag about pitching my best games against Houston and San Fransisco. Tampa Bay, yeah, but the other two? Not impressed.

Fine, those were his best 3 games this year. 8 IP 2H, CG 1H, 7IP 3 H all shutout ball. I don't think too many pitchers in the big leagues not named Strasburg, Ubaldo, or Josh Johnson could do the same thing. I bet you haven't seen him pitch. The kid is the real deal.

Do I have the opportunity to see Padres games while being stationed in Germany? No.

But I do have the internet and the ability to follow ones career (which I have done since last year for Latos).

All I was saying is, saying two of your best outings against the Astros and Giants isn't saying much.

The Padres pride themselves as being the team of the military and there's plenty of room on the bandwagon. Thank you for your service.

To be fair to Latos that's probably going to be true for many pitchers this year. One of Jimenez' best outings was vs San Fran - saying that doesn't lessen his accomplishments either.
