What role will he play in the Braves' rotation? He's too good to be a pen arm, so does he get traded, or does someone get traded so he can have a rotation spot or...? Any insight helps.

As a Braves fan i kind of hope we can get a good bat for him.. I think maybe they called him up to AAA to show other teams what he has against a higher level of competition..
there have been rumors of Matt Kemp being traded and the braves could use a right handed bat and an outfielder the dodgers could also use a young pitcher maybe throw a package together for kemp? One can only hope.

I think his name limits him.

Also, Gilmo, what do you mean about the less than sign re: the INTL league Are you saying its easier to pitch there or easier to hit there?

in my opinion, both

I think the competition is traditionally better in the southern league.

I'd say the competition is a bit more MLB ready in the AAA, but the ceilings are much lower. I think its still good for prospects to see the INTL league because they see more consistent breaking stuff. Breaking stuff for strikes, and actual MLB changeups. (Hellickson)

You'll run into a Mike Hessman, Joe Dillon, etc who will take you deep 35 times a year if you leave something out over the plate, but you wont see a 5 tool Right Fielder because he's going straight from AA to the bigs.

I think both hitters & pitchers have something to learn by playing there.

I agree, but it's still not a place people go to prove things.

I'm usually in alignment with you Gilmore but I'll respectfully disagree here. I think guys can prove plenty in AAA even though the talent may be spotty. Although maybe "refinement" is a better word than "prove".

Look at a guy like Freeman. He will see pitching at AAA that in many respects will be much more refined and comparable to the Majors because of it. The command of secondary stuff is much more consistent IMO and that should provide Freeman with valuable experience - especially against breaking stuff from the lefty specialist types.

Same for Minor. Some of the Quad A guys stuck in the IL should help him refine getting guys out with more than just stuff.

I don't believe a stop in AAA is necessary but I think it can minimize the amount of on-the-job learning that goes on at the MLB level. I would bet Heyward's K's wouldn't be so high if he spent 3 months in AAA. Does that mean I think it was mistake to promote him? Absolutely not. The pros clearly outweighted the cons.
